On February 19, 2023, the Foundation of Shalom Park Board of Directors participated in a discussion titled Imagining the Future of Shalom Park. They reflected on the founding principles of why Shalom Park was created over forty years ago. They discussed what is working at Shalom Park today and where change may be needed. And they developed ideas for enhancements to Shalom Park with the goal of ensuring that Shalom Park is relevant to the lives of the Jewish community for decades to come. Representatives from Charlotte Jewish Preschool, Charlotte Jewish Day School, Foundation of Shalom Park, Jewish Federation of Greater Charlotte, Jewish Family Services, Levine Jewish Community Center, Temple Beth El, and Temple Israel were all present.

To capture these important ideas of the past and future, the Foundation of Shalom Park engaged a graphic recorder, from the sketch effect, the artist travelled from Atlanta, who translated the discussion into three graphical representations – Founding Principles, What Works? What Doesn’t? and Shalom Park Future. Cumulatively the graphical boards and ideas are termed Shalom Park Perspectives.

As you view the Shalom Park Perspectives display, the Foundation of Shalom Park challenges you to explore your ideas of Shalom Park, its future, and its impact on the Charlotte Jewish community.

The boards will be on display at Shalom Park for the next month. Be sure to check them out next time you are walking the halls. You can find them near Gorelick Hall, head down Main Street, continue through the atrium, past Gorelick Hall entrance, and they will be on your right.
